1st Lesson while riding bikes with my son
Decided to kill two birds with one stone today—spend some quality time with my 8-year-old and get in some much-needed cardio. What better way than a bike ride, right?
Little did I know that this ride would turn into a lesson in perseverance, laughter, and perspective—for both of us.
On Day 1, I suggested we ride to the bus stop. “It’s not that far,” I said. Let me set the scene for y’all: like most folks who live in the country, I’ve always enjoyed driving these back roads without giving much thought to the details—wide-open spaces, majestic oak trees, peaceful solitude.
But as we started pedaling (mind you, this was our first ride in five years—the last time he was on training wheels, and I spent most of my time wobbling beside him), I quickly realized I had seriously underestimated the “short” distance to the bus stop. Oh, and I completely forgot about the HILLS.
Yeah, hills. Lots of them.
Why have I never noticed them before? Oh, right—because when you’re in a truck, the road feels flat. On a bike? Not so much.
Let’s just say God used this moment to teach both me and my son some big lessons about patience, resilience, and appreciating life’s journey—even when it’s uphill. Stay tuned for the wisdom we gained, both as mom and son, and as children of the King.
